How to play CivCity: Rome in Italian on Steam

CivCity: Rome is a city-building strategy game developed by Firefly Studios and Firaxis Games, released in 2006. The game allows players to create and manage ancient Roman cities, while also engaging in military and diplomatic affairs. CivCity: Rome is available on Steam, but only in English, French, German and Spanish languages. However, there is a way to play the game in Italian, thanks to a fan-made translation patch.

In this article, we will show you how to download and install the Italian translation patch for CivCity: Rome on Steam, and enjoy the game in your native language.

Step 1: Download the Italian translation patch

The Italian translation patch for CivCity: Rome is not an official product of Firefly Studios or Firaxis Games, but a fan-made project that converts the game’s texts, audio and videos into Italian. The patch was originally created by Kivan from Games Translator[^2^], and later shared by icniVadoDraNoel from Lucullus Games[^1^]. You can download the patch from either of these sources:

The patch consists of two files: “Traduzione ITALIANA Testi-Audio.rar” and “Traduzione ITALIANA Video”. The first file contains the Italian texts and audio files, while the second file contains the Italian videos. You will need both files to fully convert the game into Italian.

Step 2: Extract and install the Italian translation patch

Once you have downloaded the patch files, you need to extract them using a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip. Then, you need to install them into your CivCity: Rome folder on Steam. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Open the file “Traduzione ITALIANA Testi-Audio.rar” and extract its contents into your CivCity: Rome folder on Steam. The default location of this folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\CivCity Rome. If you have changed the installation path of Steam or CivCity: Rome, you need to find the correct folder. You can also access it directly from your Steam library by right-clicking on CivCity: Rome, selecting Properties, then Local Files, then Browse Local Files.
  2. Run the file “Traduzione ITALIANA Video” and indicate as installation path the BINKS folder inside your CivCity: Rome folder on Steam. The default location of this folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\CivCity Rome\binks. If you have changed the installation path of Steam or CivCity: Rome, you need to find the correct folder.
  3. Replace any existing files with the new ones when prompted.

Step 3: Enjoy CivCity: Rome in Italian

After installing the patch, you can launch CivCity: Rome from Steam as usual. The game should now be in Italian, with all texts, audio and videos translated. You can check the language settings from the main menu by clicking on Options, then Language. You should see “Italiano” as the selected language.

Now you can play CivCity: Rome in Italian and immerse yourself in the ancient Roman civilization. Build majestic monuments, expand your empire, and witness the rise and fall of one of the greatest civilizations in history.
