What's New in Minecraft A Guide to the Latest Beta Version

Minecraft is the twelfth beta version for Bedrock Edition 1.16.0, released on May 7, 2020. It fixes some bugs and introduces some new features related to the Nether Update, which is expected to launch later this year.

In this article, we will explore what’s new in Minecraft, how to download it, and what to expect from the upcoming Nether Update.

What’s New in Minecraft

The main focus of Minecraft is to fix some crashes and graphics issues that were reported in the previous beta versions. However, it also adds some new features and changes that are part of the Nether Update.

Here are some of the highlights of Minecraft

  • Respawn Anchor: This is a new block that allows you to set a spawn point in the Nether. You can charge it with up to four glowstone blocks and use it to respawn in the Nether without losing your items or experience levels.
  • New Mobs: Minecraft introduces four new mobs that are native to the Nether: Striders, Hoglins, Piglins, and Zoglins. Striders are neutral creatures that can walk on lava and can be tamed and ridden with a saddle and a warped fungus on a stick. Hoglins are hostile beasts that drop porkchops and leather when killed. Piglins are semi-hostile humanoids that are obsessed with gold and can barter with you if you wear gold armor or throw them gold ingots. Zoglins are zombified versions of hoglins that are created when hoglins enter the Overworld or the End.
  • New Biomes: Minecraft features five new biomes that make the Nether more diverse and interesting: Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, Soul Sand Valley, Basalt Deltas, and Bastion Remnants. Crimson Forest and Warped Forest are lush forests with different colors and vegetation. Soul Sand Valley is a barren wasteland filled with soul sand, soul soil, fossils, and blue fire. Basalt Deltas are volcanic regions with basalt pillars, magma blocks, and ash particles. Bastion Remnants are ancient fortresses that contain loot chests, piglin banners, and piglin mobs.
  • Netherite: This is a new material that is stronger than diamond and can be used to craft armor and tools that do not burn in lava. To obtain netherite, you need to find ancient debris in the lower levels of the Nether, smelt it into netherite scraps, combine four scraps with four gold ingots to make a netherite ingot, and then use a smithing table to upgrade your diamond items into netherite items.

How to Download Minecraft

What's New in Minecraft

Minecraft is available for Xbox One, Windows 10, and Android devices. To download it, you need to join the Minecraft Beta Program through the Xbox Insider Hub app on Xbox One or Windows 10, or through the Google Play Store app on Android.

Please note that joining the beta will replace your game with a work in progress version of Minecraft that may contain bugs and glitches. You will not have access to Realms or be able to join non-beta players while you’re previewing the beta. You can leave the beta at any time by following the same steps as joining it, but you may need to reinstall the game to restore it to the stable version.
