“Kau” was released in 1990 as part of his album “Kau Dan Aku Satu”, which means “You and I Are One”. The song is a simple but heartfelt declaration of faith and love for God, who has given him everything he needs in life. The lyrics of the song are as follows:
Kau yang menghidupkan hatiku
You are the one who gives life to my heart
Kau yang memberi cahaya hidupku
You are the one who gives light to my life
Kau yang memberi kekuatan padaku
You are the one who gives strength to me
Kau yang memberi harapan padaku
You are the one who gives hope to me
Tanpa Kau aku tak berarti
Without You I am nothing
Tanpa Kau aku tak berdaya
Without You I am powerless
Tanpa Kau aku tak berharga
Without You I am worthless
Tanpa Kau aku tak ada apa-apanya
Without You I am nothing at all
Kau yang mengisi kekosongan jiwaku
You are the one who fills the emptiness of my soul
Kau yang memberi kebahagiaan hidupku
You are the one who gives happiness to my life
Kau yang memberi penghiburan padaku
You are the one who gives comfort to me
Kau yang memberi pengampunan padaku
You are the one who gives forgiveness to me

Obbie Messakh: The Man Behind the Songs
Obbie Messakh was born on April 26, 1957 in Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia. He is of Rote descent, an ethnic group from the island of Rote. He grew up and lived in Jakarta since he was a child. He started his career in music as a songwriter for JK Records, a prominent record label in the 1980s. He wrote songs for many famous singers at that time, such as Betharia Sonata, Helen Sparingga, Lydia Natalia, Ria Angelina, and Uci Bing Slamet. His songs were always popular and sold well in the market. He also released his own solo albums, such as “Kau dan Aku Satu”, “Putri”, “Akhirnya Ku Jatuh Cinta”, and “Kisah Kasih di Sekolah”. His songs were mostly romantic ballads and pop songs that reflected his personal experiences and emotions.
Obbie Messakh became famous in the 1980s with his song “Kisah Kasih di Sekolah”, which means “Love Story at School”. The song was a hit among teenagers and young adults who could relate to the story of a young couple who fell in love at school. The song was also covered by many other singers, such as Chrisye and Nindy Ellesse. However, Obbie Messakh also faced some controversy when his song “Hati Yang Luka”, which means “Wounded Heart”, was banned by the Minister of Information, Harmoko, because it was considered too sentimental and depressing. The song was about a man who suffered from a broken heart after his lover left him for another man. The song was no longer aired on TVRI, the only television station at that time. Obbie Messakh’s career declined after that. However, he continued to write songs and tried to create more cheerful and upbeat songs, even pop dangdut songs.
Obbie Messakh is still active in the music industry until now. He often performs in various events and shows, especially for nostalgic fans who love his songs. He also participates in social activities and charity events. He is married and has two children, David Messakh and Dian Messakh. He also has several grandchildren. He lives a simple and modest life in Jakarta. He is still passionate about music and hopes to inspire the younger generation with his songs.
