Plot Summary

Newly paroled con artist Debbie Ocean, Danny Ocean’s younger sister, convinces former partner in crime and girlfriend Lou to join her in a new heist. They assemble their team: once-famous-now-dead-end fashion designer Rose Weil, who owes the IRS; jewelry maker Amita, who vies for more independence from her mother; security hacker Nine Ball; street hustler and pickpocket Constance; and profiteer Tammy, who fences stolen goods out of her suburban home.

Debbie plans to steal the Toussaint, a $150 million Cartier necklace, during the upcoming Met Gala, using the host, famous film star Daphne Kluger, as an unwitting accomplice. The team manipulates Daphne into hiring Rose and convinces Cartier to loan her the Toussaint. Rose and Amita go to Cartier and digitally scan the necklace to manufacture a cubic zirconia replica. Nine Ball works on creating a blindspot on the museum’s security cameras to move the necklace.

On the night of the gala, Lou spikes Daphne’s soup with a substance that causes vomiting. Constance slips into the bathroom where Daphne is being sick and secretly swaps the Toussaint with the replica. She passes it to Amita who escapes through a window. Tammy plants fake evidence that frames Debbie’s ex-boyfriend Claude Becker for stealing the necklace. He is arrested by FBI agent John Frazier.

However, Debbie reveals to Lou that her real plan was to steal all of the other jewels on display at the gala. While everyone was distracted by the missing Toussaint, Nine Ball hacked into the security system and deactivated the magnetized locking mechanisms on all of the display cases. The team then used a small device hidden in Daphne’s dress to unlock them. They replaced all of the jewels with replicas made by Tammy’s associates.

The team sells all of the stolen jewels to a criminal fence for $85 million. They also return one of Daphne’s earrings to Cartier as proof that she still has the Toussaint. Cartier then discovers that it is fake and calls off their investigation. The team splits up the money among themselves and donate some of it to various charities in Danny Ocean’s name.

In a final twist, Debbie reveals to Lou that she had also recruited an eighth member: her mentor Reuben Tishkoff, who had faked his death earlier. He helped them sell some of the jewels to another fence for an additional $38 million. Debbie visits Danny’s grave and tells him that they pulled off their heist.
