Episode 383 of One Piece is titled “The Great Treasure Contest! Collapse! Spa Island”. It is part of the Spa Island Arc, which is a filler arc that takes place between the Thriller Bark Arc and the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. In this episode, Luffy and his crew visit Spa Island, a floating resort that offers various attractions and services. However, they soon discover that the island is a trap set by a greedy entrepreneur named Doran, who is after a secret ingredient for a rare gem that can save a village from drought. The ingredient is hidden in a notebook that belongs to two sisters, Lina and Sayo, who are also on the island. Lina and Sayo are the daughters of a scientist who was researching the gem before he died. Luffy decides to help them and destroy the island to find Sayo, who has been kidnapped by Doran. The episode features a cameo appearance by Foxy, a former rival of Luffy who also wants the gem.
The episode was aired on December 28, 2008 in Japan and on November 16, 2013 in the US. It was written by Takuya Masumoto, directed by Munehisa Sakai, and animated by Yukiko Nakatani. The opening theme song was “We Are!” (2008 Remix) by Hiroshi Kitadani and the ending theme song was “Adventure World” by Delicatessen.
The episode also shows the reunion of Luffy and Foxy, who had a previous rivalry in the Davy Back Fight. Foxy reveals that he was hired by Doran to help him get the gem, but he also wants it for himself. He challenges Luffy to another game, but Luffy refuses and punches him away. Foxy then tries to steal the notebook from Lina, but Nami intervenes and electrocutes him with her Clima-Tact.
Meanwhile, Luffy reaches the roof where Sayo is held captive. He confronts Doran and his cannon, but Doran fires a barrage of cannonballs at him. Luffy dodges them and uses his Gum-Gum Pistol to destroy the cannon. He then frees Sayo and carries her to safety. Doran tries to escape with his remaining men, but Franky arrives with the Thousand Sunny and blasts them with the Gaon Cannon.
As Spa Island begins to sink, Luffy and his crew board the Sunny and sail away. They notice that the X on the map was actually marking an underwater volcano that was shaped like an X. They realize that Lina’s father was trying to use the heat from the volcano to create the gem. They also wonder what the gem looks like and what it can do.
Some days later, Lina and Sayo send a letter to the Straw Hats, thanking them for their help. They also send them a small box containing the gem they made. The gem is a beautiful blue crystal that can produce water when exposed to sunlight. The Straw Hats are amazed by the gem and congratulate Lina and Sayo for their success. However, as they celebrate, a candy rain falls from the sky and covers the Sunny. Luffy accidentally drops the gem into the sea and loses it forever.
