How to Install The Sims 3 on Your PC or Mac
The Sims 3 is a popular life simulation game that lets you create and control your own virtual characters and their surroundings. You can customize their appearance, personality, skills, relationships, careers, hobbies, and more. You can also explore different worlds, build your own houses and community lots, and interact with other Sims and objects.
If you want to play The Sims 3 on your computer, you need to install it first. There are different ways to install The Sims 3 depending on whether you bought it through Origin, on disc, or as a digital download. Here are the steps to follow for each method:
Installing The Sims 3 through Origin
- Origin is EA’s digital distribution platform that lets you buy, download, and update games online. If you bought The Sims 3 or any of its expansions or stuff packs through Origin, they will be automatically added to your account and download queue.
- To install The Sims 3 through Origin, you need to download and install Origin first. You can get it from https://www.origin.com/.
- Once you have Origin installed, launch it and log in to your EA account. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one for free.
- Go to My Game Library and find The Sims 3. Click on the Download button and wait for the game to download and install.
- Repeat the same process for any expansions or stuff packs you want to install.
- When the installation is complete, you can launch The Sims 3 from Origin or from your desktop shortcut.
Installing The Sims 3 from disc
- If you bought a disc copy of The Sims 3 or any of its expansions or stuff packs, you need to register them on The Sims 3 website or redeem your codes for them in Origin. This will allow you to download and update your game online.
- To register your game on The Sims 3 website, go to https://www.thesims3.com/ and create an account or log in to your existing one.
- Click on My Page, then My Account. Click on Register a Game and type your code into the box. Your code should be 20 digits long and can be found on the back of the manual or inside the case of your disc.
- To redeem your code in Origin, launch Origin and log in to your EA account. Click on Origin in the menu bar and select Redeem Product Code. Type your code into the boxes and click Redeem.
- Once you have registered or redeemed your game, you can download and install it through Origin following the steps above.
- If you don’t want to use Origin, you can also install your game from disc using the setup.exe file. However, this method will not update your game past version 1.67 and may cause compatibility issues with newer expansions or stuff packs.
- To install your game from disc, insert the disc into your computer’s drive and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need to type in your code when prompted.
- Always install The Sims 3 base game before installing any expansions, stuff packs, worlds or store content.
- If you have multiple discs for an expansion or stuff pack, insert them in order when prompted.
- When the installation is complete, you can launch The Sims 3 from your desktop shortcut or from the Start menu.
Installing The Sims 3 as a digital download
